The cryptocurrency world has its share of legendary figures, from the enigmatic Bitcoin founder Satoshi Nakamoto to high-profile personalities like Sam Bankman-Fried and Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao. But none have received quite the same musical tribute as Ethereum creator Vitalik Buterin, with the release of a Eurodisco dance track in his honor titled “V Buterin.”
The Creative Minds Behind “V Buterin”
The track is the brainchild of pseudonymous Sound.xyz co-founder Gigamesh and Ben Jones, the co-founder of Ethereum scaling solution Optimism. Jones has used the pseudonym “Weird ETH Yankovic” for this venture. The duo has crafted a humorous song in the mold of Boney M’s 1978 hit “Rasputin,” blending a lively rhythm with lyrics lauding the contributions of Vitalik Buterin.
Sound.xyz: A Web3 Music Platform
“V Buterin” is available as a free-to-mint NFT via the Web3 music platform Sound.xyz, highlighting Buterin’s pioneering work in building the Ethereum network. The song begins with the line, “Twas born a brilliant man, in Russian long ago. He dropped out of school with a perfect 4.0,” serving as a testament to Buterin’s remarkable journey.
In a strategic development, Sound.xyz decided to go beyond the Ethereum mainnet and include Optimism compatibility. This move aims to lower artists’ fees when selling songs on the blockchain, facilitating direct revenue generation from fans. The release of “V Buterin” serves to mark this expansion.
The Success and Future of “V Buterin”
So far, the response to the Vitalik-themed single has been overwhelmingly positive, with almost 70,000 free NFTs of the song minted to date. The minting process will continue until June 19, suggesting that the song’s popularity and reach will likely increase further. As it stands, “V Buterin” represents a unique convergence of the cryptocurrency and music worlds, serving as a fitting tribute to one of the most influential figures in the blockchain space.
Earlier this year, Vitalik Buterin publicly endorsed an NFT collection by Metalabel x Gitcoin Presents, marking a significant moment in cryptocurrency.
The NFT collection, paying homage to Quadratic Funding, incorporates a whitepaper that Buterin co-authored in 2018. The initial sale was a massive success, with all 9221 NFTs selling out and generating a hefty revenue of $781,274.
