The Associated Press (AP) announced 10th January that they would launch their own NFT marketplace on Monday 31st January. AP used Xooa to build its platform. On launch, you will be able to purchase the world-renowned News Agency’s award-winning photography.
This is massive for those of us with an interest in history and contemporary events.
AP has been reporting from around the world since 1846 and won a plethora of awards for their photojournalism and reporting. Recent examples of such awards are the 2 Pulitzer prizes they won last year.
The inaugural selection of photographers will be comprised of present and former AP photojournalists and will include Pulitzer prize-winning photos.
Each of the Non-fungible tokens available on the Associated Press NFT marketplace will come with background metadata. This gives collectors the times, dates, locations, and information on the photographic equipment used.
First collection on Associated Press NFT marketplace
We have no doubt that there will be a lot of interest in the first collection of photographs. The sale commences Monday 31st January. Moreover, they will release further digital photographs in the following weeks.
AP stated that the first installment of “NFTs will range from space, climate, war and other images to spotlights on the work of specific AP photographers.”
NFT prices on the platform will vary. The marketplace will allow for ease of sale and purchase and includes a secondary market. You can make payments using either a credit or debit card. Alternatively, you can choose from a selection of cryptocurrency wallets. These include ” MetaMask, with support for Fortmatic, Binance, and Coinbase (NASDAQ: COIN) to come.”
It is worth noting that AP is a non-profit organization and that proceeds from the sales will go back into “funding factual, unbiased AP journalism.” , they stated.
AP chose the environmentally friendly Polygon blockchain on which to build their marketplace and Xooa built it.
Zach Danker-Feldman, Xooa’s head of marketplaces states “Xooa is proud to work with The Associated Press to launch AP’s marketplace. Xooa’s work with brands around NFTs and metaverse marketplaces provides inherent scarcity and utility for collectors as well as a powerful connection between the virtual world and the real world,”
Finally, keep your calendar so you can purchase the news agency’s historic coverage of pivotal moments in history. There should be some iconic photographs coming up for sale. With a collection accumulated over 176 years of covering all the major global events, we are in for a rare treat.
