As digital collectibles get bigger and bigger globally, NASCAR have entered the digital NFT collectables space for their 2022 Daytona 500 race.
Following in the footsteps of other major sporting events that have recently decided to digitalize the ticketing of their events, such as the NFL giving every fan who attended this month’s Super Bowl a complimentary commemorative digital ticket, NASCAR has gone one further and is using the WAX blockchain as their partner.
Here is what Tim Clark, NASCAR Chief Digital Officer had to say about the decision to digitalise:
“There’s unprecedented excitement heading into the 2022 Daytona 500, and we want to thank our fans for their continued dedication to the sport by gifting ticket holders with a free digital collectible to commemorate the Great American Race … Fans want to engage with brands in new and unique ways and this is another step in that process.”
NASCAR limited-edition NFT drops in official partnership with WAX
For this year’s Daytona 500 Great American Race, NASCAR has decided to digitize their tickets through five different editions of the commemorative tickets. NASCAR also decided to give away NFT drops of 500 digital collectibles and commemorative NASCAR driving helmets.
Here’s how they did it:
- Prior to the anticipated yearly event, NASCAR emailed Daytona 500 ticket holders announcing the news.
- This gave them a 24-hour notice to sign up for their WAX Wallet in order to enter the contest.
- 500 NFT winners were automatically entered into a draw to win one (1) of five (5) autographed NASCAR driver helmets.
William Quigley, CEO of Wax cites exactly why they were selected as the blockchain of choice to partner with NASCAR:
“The WAX Blockchain is the only chain fast enough to keep up with NASCAR … Eco-friendly with a high transaction capacity and speeds up to 8,000 transactions per second, WAX is a perfect fit when brands like NASCAR want to bring NFTs to a mass-market audience.”
NASCAR needed to ensure as many people as possible take part in their history-making NFT drop event and in order to make that happen WAX was selected as their chosen platform to transact these collectibles.
Not only is WAX an incredibly quick blockchain but they also understand the fun factor of collecting through their many different partnerships with the likes of Capcom, Atari, Topps, and Lionsgate. Moreover, WAX NFT platform is incredibly user-friendly and allows those just starting out with digital collectibles to jump straight in with minimal difficulty technicalities to jump through.
In an ever-changing world where it’s fundamental to be ‘Green’ it is also worth noting that WAX is a certified carbon neutral blockchain by ClimateCare and uses x 220,000 less energy than its competitors.
And last but not least, for those that missed out on this inaugural program, please have no fear as NASCAR will be releasing additional collectibles to enhance that fan bond throughout the season so keep your ears and eyes peeled.
