In an intriguing blend of the digital and physical realms, renowned French luxury brand Louis Vuitton is set to debut its maiden “phygital” NFT collection named “Via”. The limited-edition series will feature coveted “Treasure Trunks” in physical form and matching non-fungible tokens. The catch? There will only be a few hundred trunks made available, each for a staggering €39,000.
Securing a Piece of Luxury
For those desiring one of these exclusive tokens and trunks, the window of opportunity begins on June 8. Hopeful buyers must hop onto the dedicated website and link up their crypto wallets while providing personal details. Louis Vuitton’s process will tie personal information to wallet addresses in an unusual move for the privacy-focused crypto world. The anonymity usually cherished by the crypto community gets a slight nudge here.
By June 14, Louis Vuitton plans to disclose additional details about the drop to selected individuals. Two days later, on June 16, registered users can claim these exclusive trunks by shelling out crypto or fiat currency.
Unique Features of Louis Vuitton’s NFT Collection
Ownership of the NFTs isn’t merely about acquiring a valuable asset. It also opens the door to future Louis Vuitton offerings. “Keys” to unlock special items will be made available to the owners, with the inaugural key anticipated to drop in mid-June. Adding a touch of participatory flair, Louis Vuitton also intends to invite community members to join various experiences.
Another notable feature of these tokens is their “soul-bound” nature, preventing holders from transferring or selling them. In this way, Louis Vuitton underscores the principles of exclusivity and a “closed community.”
Louis Vuitton’s Historical Association with NFTs
Louis Vuitton, whose claim to fame was the elite travel trunks it produced way back in the 19th century, is offering loyal fans a fresh avenue to connect with the brand’s heritage through this NFT collection. This isn’t the brand’s first foray into the world of NFTs.
In August 2021, Louis Vuitton launched a free-to-play NFT-integrated game, “Louis: the Game”, which educated fans about the brand’s history interactively while trying to collect one of 30 non-fungible tokens. The game marked a fitting tribute to the 200th birthday of Louis Vuitton, a testament to the brand’s enduring allure.
