Square Enix Announces Final Fantasy VII Trading Cards with NFTs

The collection of trading cards from Square Enix will celebrate Final Fantasy VII and will include NFTs.

The iconic game Final Fantasy VII is being immortalized in a trading card collection. Indeed, the collection is called Final Fantasy VII Anniversary Art Museum: Digital Card Plus, and will feature ‘digital exchange cards’.

In turn, these digital exchange cards can be redeemed for NFTs. According to Square Enix, all 207 cards in the collection will be attainable as NFTs.

However, there is currently no facility to resell or gift the NFTs to someone else.

Each pack will be priced at ¥440 ($3.30), and contains six physical trading cards – as well as the digital exchange card.

Square Enix NFTs

This is not Square Enix’s first foray into NFTs. In fact, Square Enix was one of the first major game developers to embrace the technology. Previously, the company announced a Digital Plus Edition action figure of Cloud Strife – a hero of the Final Fantasy series.

Moreover, the action figure of Cloud Strife comes together with an NFT version.

All this works through the NFT platform Enjin. In summary, to redeem your digital version of the card, you will need to create an account with Enjin, and download their Enjin Wallet app.

Finally, Square Enix also notes that if the Enjin service should ever terminate, “it is possible that you will not be able to view or use the digital card in the future”.

The NFT game

Developing legendary games is what Square Enix does best. For instance, they have brought countless classics to the world including the Final Fantasy series, Kingdom Hearts, and Saga Frontier. Now, Square Enix is delving into the world of Web3, and the company has already announced its first NFT game.

In this new NFT experience, there will be a collection of 10,000 NFT characters with real game utility. The game is entitled ‘Symbiogenesis’, and has been described as “narrative unlocked NFT entertainment”.

According to Square Enix, the game is “a completely new form of NFT-based entertainment.”

We eagerly await this latest installment from Square Enix.
