Japan’s gaming giant is building a new experience called ‘Symbiogenesis’ on the Polygon blockchain
Square Enix is building its new NFT gaming experience on the Polygon blockchain. Indeed, the creator of Final Fantasy and countless other classics will launch its first NFT-driven experience in Spring.
Symbiogenesis producer Naoyuki Tamate said in a statement: “Symbiogenesis was designed from the ground up on the blockchain and is designed to provide an exceptional experience for both community building and trading.”
“Square Enix opted to tap into Polygon’s high transaction speeds, low gas fees, and overall user-friendliness to deliver this unique experience to Web3 fans.”
Symbiogenesis the NFT game
Square Enix is one of the first major game developers to embrace the blockchain and NFTs. Last November, the company announced its intentions to build a brand new game on the Ethereum network, leveraging NFTs as social media profile pictures and characters in a story. Moreover, we discovered that the game will take place in an alternative world, as players untangle a mystery and make strategic moves.
Now, more details are emerging about the game. For instance, we know that the game will be built on the Ethereum sidechain – Polygon.
Additionally, we know that the game will take place on a floating continent above the polluted future Earth. In the game, society will be forced to pool resources, and unite in a battle for survival against a raging dragon.
Polygon Labs reveals more
Polygon Labs, the development and growth team for the decentralized Polygon protocol, has revealed that there will be 10,000 character NFTs in the game.
What is more, players will be able to trade NFTs with each other in the game. However, you will not need to own an NFT to play the game.
Urvit Goel, vice president of global games and platform business development at Polygon Labs believes the partnership is significant. He said: “We are extremely proud to collaborate with Square Enix a highly respected gaming company with a proven track record spanning over several decades.”
“Our latest collaboration just goes to show that Web3 is decisively getting more and more traction among the world’s largest developers, proving yet again that this innovative stack of technologies and the benefits they bestow have massive potential when it comes to gaming.”
Symbiogenesis is due for release in the Spring. Therefore, stay tuned for more details about Square Enix’s first NFT game on the blockchain.
