Adidas Originals Unveils Its Virtual Wearables NFT Collection

Sports gear giant Adidas has unveiled a limited collection of virtual wearables NFTs. The move marks the first such product by the company, which defines the wearables as “Virtual Gear.” According to a press release, the product will help Adidas strengthen its “community-based, member-first, open metaverse strategy.”

The virtual gear consists of a 16-piece collection and represents a creative and cultural milestone for Adidas. The company states that the NFTs “tie together past and future, virtual and physical, communities and creators, culture, and identity.”

These wearables are available to existing Capsule NFT Collection holders via an airdrop. However, they will have to “reveal and replace” their existing Capsule NFTs to discover which of the 16 unique pieces they have been awarded. In other words, they have to burn their existing NFTs to obtain the wearables.

The Capsule NFT Collection was launched in May 2022.

That said, if you don’t own any of the Adidas Originals: Capsule NFTs, there is no need to worry. The new bunch of wearable NFTs is available for purchase on various marketplaces.

Also, as a community member that holds a wearable NFT and a compatible partner collection NFT from BAYC, MAYC, or Inhabitants, there is a PFP Tool that will allow you to “dress up” your NFTs with the Virtual Gear.

Speaking on the launch of the virtual wearable NFT collection, Erica Wykes-Sneyd, VP of Three Stripes Studio, notes that the company is “laying down a marker in the new age of originality.”
