In another step forward for the convergence of fashion and blockchain, global apparel leader Adidas has announced a collaboration with renowned digital artist Fewocious. Their joint venture is centered on a physical sneaker collaboration, combining fashion with NFT technology.
The project’s theme centres on exploring the “art of play.” As part of this endeavor, Fewocious and Adidas have devised an NFT mint pass named “Trefoil Flower,” available in 4,500 editions. This mint pass was set to go on sale exclusively via the OpenSea marketplace on June 22.
Holders of the Trefoil Flower NFT mint pass will have the unique opportunity to redeem a pair of Adidas Originals Campus 00s. These custom-designed physical sneakers are a crucial part of this collaboration. Starting in August, mint pass holders can “burn” the NFT. This process permanently destroys the token in order to claim their pair of sneakers. Shipping of the sneakers is expected to commence in September.
To further incorporate digital technology into the project, each pair of Adidas Originals Campus 00s will be equipped with a near field communication (NFC) tag.
NFT Redemption Process and Noteworthy Participants
The Trefoil Flower NFT pre-sale will occur in three stages before being opened to the public. Early access to minting, at a discounted price of 0.2 ETH or roughly $350 at the time of writing, will be granted to holders of Adidas’ Alts Decos and Soles NFTs and Fewocious Paint Drops.
In the subsequent stage, holders of other Adidas Alts, Fewocious NFTs, and select others, including Bored Ape Yacht Club, Doodles and Rug Radio NFTs, will have the opportunity to mint at 0.25 ETH ($435). The public sale will begin shortly afterwards at the same price.
Major Players in Web3 and Their Past NFT Ventures
Fewocious, a 20-year-old transgender artist also known as Victor Langlois, has been making waves in the NFT space for the past three years. His work, which displays a vibrant and playful use of paint to evoke childhood memories, has garnered him over $50 million in lifetime sales. He has worked with various notable collaborators, including RTFKT, owned by Nike, auction houses Christie’s and Sotheby’s, and the David Bowie estate.
Adidas is no stranger to the NFT scene, either. The brand began its journey into the blockchain realm when it purchased a Bored Ape NFT to create the fictional character Indigo Herz in December 2021. Its “Into the Metaverse” collection, created in collaboration with the Bored Ape Yacht Club, Punks Comic, and NFT influencer gmoney, has generated over $150 million in NFT trading volume.
