Sergio Aguero signs for the Sandbox Games Metaverse

Argentinian and ex-Manchester City legend Sergio Kun Aguero’s reinvention since retirement continues as he teams up with the Sandbox. The idea is to build a football-centric virtual world of gaming, ‘The Kuniverse’. The game’s metaverse, which was developed with Eter Studios, is slated for release on the 6th of November with an accompanying collection of Kun NFTs.

Kun Aguero should need no introduction to anybody with an ounce of interest in soccer. He began his career at Indenpiente in Argentina. From there, he signed Athletico Madrid before moving to the Premier League with Manchester City and ending his career earlier than expected at Barcelona on the advice of doctors.

Since retiring, he has found fame all over again, becoming a Fifa 20 streaming star on Twitch, where he has amassed as fervent a following as he had as a player.

The Kuniverse in the Sandbox

Kun Aguero no longer plays the beautiful game after his retirement at the end of 2021, due to illness. However, he is keen to keep engaged with his old and new adoring fans and sees this partnership with the Sandbox as a natural progression.

The Sandbox is a metaverse built on the Ethereum blockchain and one of the leading Web3 companies involved in the making of the Metaverse and the future of gaming and entertainment. It made available the Metaverse space for the project and spoke of its delight with the new partnership on Twitter.

Furthermore, Sebastien Borget, the Sandbox COO and co-founder stated,

“Kun Agüero’s popularity has transcended the global football and gaming communities, and we’re pleased to bring it on next into the open Metaverse with The Sandbox. We look forward to seeing the Kuniverse come to life as a creative space full of fun activities, not only Kun fans but The Sandbox community as a whole,”

Speaking about the new Kuniverse, Kun Aguero stated,

“I am very excited to have my first space in the metaverse we created with Eter Studio inside The Sandbox to play and stream with my fans around the world. The first season of Kuniverse will be full of surprises and benefits related to the 9,320 avatars that were specially created.”

The initial release of Kuniverse will include a massive virtual football stadium in which players can indulge in football-related games, dance parties, and Argentinian food.

You can sign up for the whitelist via the Kun Aquero Discord channel, where you will be given first dibs at the NFT avatars in the private sale, 24 hours before the public sale. Minting is limited to five avatars per crypto wallet to ensure NFT whales do not hoard the collection.

Kun NFT Avatars

The Sandbox will drop the collection of 9320 Kun NFTs at the start of November for use in the Kuniverse.

Utilities for owners of the NFTs include a chance to win a personal meeting with the footballing great in Qatar whilst personally experiencing the football World Cup. Further utility revolves around the Kuniverse gaming metaverse, for example, Esports tournaments and music performances and events.

Kun NFTs

The NFT collection comes in five rarities; Football Kuns, E-Kuns, Future Kuns, Robot Kuns and Special Kuns, with each unique avatar representing a different period of his illustrious career. These include his time as a player at Athletico Madrid, Manchester City.

Afterthoughts

Sergio Kun Aguero’s transformation from football to digital star continues with the new Sandbox partnership. If you are a football fan or gamer, the new Kuniverse sounds like a great place to interact with like-minded fans and the star himself.

The announcement is also great for the NFT space, in general, as he introduces his legion of football and gaming fans to his new venture in the Metaverse.
