Sneakmart, a French community-driven streetwear app, is trying to bridge the divide between the physical and digital world. They are tokenizing digital sneakers to be worn and shown off in their metaverse this 2022 with their ‘Metakicks’ NFTs.
These will be customisable sneakers worn by individual avatars, which enable players to unlock various benefits in the Metaverse (as well as look extremely cool).
Sneakmart will create their NFT kicks through a series of collaborations with top brands and various Web3 communities. The first pair of unique Metakicks has been designed by French fashion giant Savoir Faire Paris, allowing the lucky NFT holder access to a pair of digital Jordan 1 Off-Shite Coffee Latte pair of Metakicks. And there are a whole lot more unique collaborations with brands and stars set to come from the project.
Sneaker Collectables
Sneakers have been collected for quite some time now and limited edition pairs go for thousands on the secondary market due to their rarity. Real ‘sneaker heads’ would give their right arm for a pair of limited edition Nike Air Jordan 1s or a limited edition pair of Adidas Yeezy’s. However, with limited pairs around and the world being as huge as it is, it is not always possible to get one’s hands on those pairs.
However, with the help of web3, purchasing, or at least making offers on equally rare digital kicks, may just be that bit easier. This is because ownership is traceable on the blockchain, and NFTs have a huge reliance on their secondary market; making rare digital kicks easier to get one’s hands on than an equally rare physical pair.
Sneakmart and StockX’s Physical Promise
Sneakmart has teamed up with a leading streetwear marketplace: StockX. StockX is the official partner for Sneakmart’s Metakicks drop. The first Metakicks drop will also feature some physical sneakers; courtesy of StockX.
In fact, over $200,000 worth of physical kicks will be given away to lucky NFT holders.
Mystery Boxes
Sneakmart will also be providing ‘mystery boxes’ for NFT holders, which will enable those holders to win one of 625 pairs of exclusive physical sneakers. These include the latest Jordan 1 High, Nike Dunk Low, and Adidas Yeezy 350’s, to name a few. Furthermore, Travis Scott, the infamous rapper, will give away two pairs of Jordan’s. NFT holders will be in with a 10% chance of winning a pair of exclusive kicks. So why not buy 10?
Soccer Players
There has already been wide-scale support for the NFT project from several high profile soccer players, including Chelsea legend Didier Drogba, Bayern star Kinsley Koman, and European Cup winner Marco Verratti.
Each, of these stars, has already created a unique, 1-of1 edition of personalised Metakicks. Owners of these Metakicks will not only have a pair of the coolest digital kicks around, but they will have the chance to gain other benefits, which include: signed items, VIP game access, and, if lucky, a meet-and-greet with one of these stars.
