This post was originally published on Don't Buy Memes

We’ve set a recommended ETH cap at 10 ETH for all pools moving forward. Any pools exceeding this cap are done at the artist’s discretion.

Artist Series Week #6

  • Dominic Glover| 5/19
  • Nahiko | 5/20
  • Kristy Glas| 5/21
  • Special Pool | 5/23 (TBA: Wednesday)

Dominic Glover

Dominic Glover’s experience started out like any artist’s: starting with an idea and bringing it to life. Since 2013, Dominic has been working as a professional illustrator and graphic designer by creating works that have been published and licensed by the likes of Marvel Entertainment, Warner Brothers, Pulsar Entertainment and more.

Dominic first heard about MEME from artist rep, Alex Urie who’s a long time member of the MEME community.

I would like to dedicate more time to creating art for my NFT art collectors and fans. When I first started my professional art career part of my art process included creating part of the art traditionally. However, as my digital art skills have improved I have pivoted my process to being 100% digital. I am very thankful that my fans and collectors have respected this decision and continue to collect my artwork.

Nahiko

Hacking the new world.

Let’s do a reverse Interview. I’ll answer the complete opposite. Then you only have to proceed with f(x)=-x ok ?

What first got you into NFT art?

x= So I had never created anything really, on my first day of using twitter I found Elon Musk talking about how NFTs were shit and thought “YAY I CAN MAKE MONEY EZ”. That’s how I didn’t get into NFT Art.

How did you initially hear about $MEME?

x= I didn’t hear about MEME before doing this drop. Actually MEME is not present on twitter since I’ve joined so I had never really heard of it.

What do you find interesting about what the $MEME project is doing?

x= MEME is just another marketplace, instead of innovating and keeping true to the Ethereum spirit it always keeps very mainstream. I dislike this.

What else excites you about NFTs and/or DeFi?

x= Really nothing at the moment.

I particularly dislike coin artist’s 50K drop, it was not very innovative. I also think Programmed art (not generative) is so 2008 and shouldn’t be the next step in Digital art. I personally am really trying to keep it quiet and not hack anything that would attract mainstream attention. I’m a shy guy.

Where will NFT art be in 3 years?

x= Crypto art is dead, long live NFT art.

What’s next for you as a digital artist?

x= I am stopping art after this drop and will retire going back to my old job I miss so much. NFT space is such a disappointment. Also, I’ll participate in many mainstream media confirming everything they say about NFTs. They know what they’re talking about.

Describe Creative Process — Anything special here? Anything you’d like readers to know about you as an artist?

x= Really I just throw paint at a wall and see what the result is. I usually don’t have a list of 100 ideas written anywhere (thanks to an advice from the everything).

Mostly I use a good technological concept for the form and include uninteresting concept, I try to mismatch them as much as possible to make it the shittiest experience for the audience, and hope they forget the point as soon as they lay eyes on something else.

The Drop: #NFTQA

>> #NFTQA drops 5/20 @ 1:37 EST <<

NFTs have now entered the mainstream.

Medias will talk about NFTs, and thus, might not show the reality of what has been built until now.

How can we correct this? It’s up to us. Communicate with their tools.

Kristy Glas

Kristy Glas is a self-taught 2D artist, well-known for painting adorable quirky cats and colorful worlds merging fantasy and sci-fi. She utilizes symbolism and storytelling but also loves for the viewers to make their own interpretations and connections to the artworks.

I first discovered $MEME on Twitter thanks to Jonathan Wolfe’s drop, I particularly loved his “Home Workout” piece with a cat. Later I had the opportunity to do the pixelart Cometh MEME commission which was a great experience.

Kristy Glas on NFTs:

I’m really excited that the possibilities are endless, I expect to be surprised. Also NFTs are changing people’s lives for the better, so many creators are pursuing their passions and developing fascinating unique projects.

I think there will be a lot more various interactive NFT platforms, utilizing art in interesting ways. One current such example is Async as they are constantly adding new possibilities to NFTs, but I believe there is much more to come.

The Drop: 🍍 Meme Cats 🐱

🍍 Meme Cats 🐱 drops 5/21 @ 1:37 EST

This is a collection of surreal cats inspired by the ever-growing NFT community. Combining a play on words and kittenish reimagination of adorable cats, each painting contains various fun details waiting to be discovered.

Kristy tells us about her creative process for this drop, specifically:

My process depends on the project and what I wish to achieve. For this drop I started with some pencil on paper sketches, brainstorming various ideas. The next step was digital sketching, deciding on the color palettes and using big brush strokes to set the compositions.

Following it is the longest part of the creative process — painting details, mostly requires patience. I use a lot of layers for the best control over each artwork. I regularly switch between several paintings and flip canvas to get a fresh look and fix any distortions. I get very absorbed into projects, also I really love listening to music while painting.
